Starland Farmers Market

If the hippies will not come to the internet, we will go to the hippies.
We had a booth at the Starland Farmers Market this past Saturday. It was only their second year, and this was the first market of the year. So there were not a lot of vendors. Maybe 15. Supposedly it will fill up as the summer progresses. Approximately 300 people showed up. We didn't sell alot. Only about $75 worth. But we had a great time. Met some people and had a nice morning in the sun. Next week we'll be back, with a canopy. And we have 2 events actually. Sunday we will be boothing for free at the BBQ/organic food/soul music/recycle rama thingy happening downtown 2-7.
The funniest moment of the day was when one of organizers from last year came over to chat me up. "You're just ooooooozing ambience." She talked my ear off for about 15 minutes and when she finally left, without buying anything, John pointed out that she wasn't interested in anything on the table but what was behind the table.
Check out our canopy-less (though Macgyver-ed umbrella chairs) quasi ghetto booth. Hopefully I'll have another picture of a classier booth next week.

I know, I know the rug is over the top, but we had to have something different and it was just laying around.

Free Speech

Busy week here at the ranch. A few local calls for both of us and big prep for the Farmers Market on Saturday morning. Yep, taking the shop to the hippies. Should be fun. Booth fees were cheap, but you get what you pay for. 10x10 piece of ground. Anyway, I'm looking forward to it for a number of reasons: being outside when its not too hot, fresh produce (the fridge never has enough vegetables in it), and *hopefully* some profit on the eco shopping bags, recycled paper, and world jewelry. Fun Fun Fun.

But in terms of the title, check out the pictures below. This guy was driving around town the other day.

Here's the side view, with all the crap in the back of the trailer.

I can't tell if that's an office chair or a rascal.

Breakin' the law, breakin' the law

I broke the law. Yeah, not more than a month ago we saw an item on the local news about the red light cameras at 4 lights in the area and their constitutionality. The other day I was out and apparently ran one of them. Yeah, awesome....ly crappy, I know. I thought the light was yellow when I entered the intersection, but apparently it had been red for .21 seconds. Yeah that's POINT 21 SECONDS. The ironic thing is that I was not even in a hurry. Grr. I realize the value of stopping at red lights, it just wasn't red! But apparently it was. $70 later I am now a law abiding citizen again.

Busy busy busy

For time off, we've sure been busy! John's had a pile of local calls lately and I've had a few. We're learning Mandarin, though not much this week, I'm learning to cook Indian food and I finally opened the Etsy shop. Check it out at http://www.basicingredients.etsy.com/. There is not much up yet, but it will fill out soon.
Today I made bagels. I had made them once before and I thought they were a little salty, so I reduced the salt this time and attemped to make them a bit healthier by replacing a little bit of the white flour with whole wheat and rye. They're pretty good, if I do say so myself.

Last weekend we went up to John's folks and had a great time. Excellent food, excellent weather! On Saturday night we went to a Myrtle Beach Pelicans baseball game with Melissa and Brie, Stephen and Dillon. Seeing a baseball game with two 7 yearolds is quite an experience. They were so excited about everything. The Pelicans were pretty bad, but we had a great time eating peanuts and hotdogs and laughing at the jackasses down a couple rows and to the right.
